The LDS church and our existence

The LDS church believes that this life is just one part of our existence.

Prior to our time on Earth we lived with Heavenly Father in our premortal existence. Heavenly Father prepared a plan to enable us to become like Him (known as the plan of salvation to Latter-Day Saints).

Jesus Christ was chosen by God to be the Savior, but Lucifer was not happy with this decision and rebelled. There was a war in heaven and when Lucifer lost he was cast down to Earth with his followers to remain as spirits. These spirits still live on earth and are there to tempt us away from God and righteousness.

Those who were on the side of Jesus Christ are permitted to come to Earth to experience a mortal existence and try to progress towards eternal life. The church believes that we have been gifted free agency to act and believe how we wish, but the decisions we make here on earth will affect our immortal existence.

They believe that when we die that our spirits will go back to the spirit world to await the resurrection. When this time comes we will once again receive a physical body and be assigned a kingdom of heaven. The glory you inherit will depend on the depth of your conversion and your obedience to the Lord’s commandments
