The Sin Next To Murder: Getting Punished for Sexual Assault
The problem with a high control, patriarchal religion is that the actions of those in leadership are not always governed by a single quote or teaching. They can be governed by the persons own views, their own upbringing, and their understanding of the churches teachings as a whole..So when an allegation of abuse is made to the bishop his actions cannot always be determined by some written or unwritten rule, but of his understanding of the LDS handbook and his overall knowledge of LDS teachings when it comes to abuse, responsibility, forgiveness, and reporting.
Ultimately this is not about some men in the church behaving inappropriately or going against guidance given to them, it is about how the LDS church systematically discriminates against women, often holding them (at least in part) responsible for the abuse they have suffered
